We run a variety of VW based engines in the Fourniers, mainly Limbach engines in the 2 seaters, but there are some with Saur engines and twin carbs. Limbach now do a watercooled turbocharged 2400cc engine that is rated at 130bhp. Some German Fournier owners have increased the cylinder capacitiies from the standard 1760cc up to 2 and 2.4 litres. In your case I think the only sensible option would be to increase to 2400cc but you really need an aluminium crankcase for extra strength - as cooling is more of a problem with increased power and there have been problems with distortion and cracking on the mag alloy cases at these capacities. Cooling and good baffles are absolutely critical. Also they generally use the nikasil cylinders for heat disipation. They are rather expensive. Also what about certification? If you're on a PFA permit they may accept an increase in capacity with an engine change form but check first.
