I also bought a 1300a for my first car when I was 17. I still have the same car 10 years on.
My car is texas yellow and lhd. I love that car, I sold my Goldie Oval, 58, 1303, 1303s, GT, and 68 Bugs but I will never sell my SparKafer 1300A.
SparKafer 1300A models were the basic economy models offerd by Volkswagen. I don't think that they are rare or very valuable as their early cousins.
70's cars have cheaper more readily available parts.. a good car to cut your VW teeth on.
Your a good Dad.. enjoy restoring the car with your son.
