I had a nice, soft landing in NYC - a place to live and a job. And since then I've just had to do some... adjusting. C'est la vie, non?

I switch back and forth between my thinking re salary vs. hourly wage. If you're late to a salary job, they generally don't dock your pay. Then again, (much more often the case) if you stay late, they don't pay extra. I've had less than stellar luck with bonuses (I think you have to be a lawyer to get a great bonus), and if you put some planning into it, you can provide yourself with the same benefits (IRA, Health Insurance) while having the flexibility of temp work. The only real advantage I can see to a permanent job is the opportunity to build a career, climb the ladder... But who here wants to do that in the corporate world!! I'd rather focus my energies towards the day when I won't need a day job.

The other thing that made my mind up: the money. If you've got good computer skills, and you're intelligent and speak well, you can make a fair bit of change temping - and a lot of places (like Tiger, for instance) will let you take classes there for free to increase your marketability.

Wow, that sounded like an ad.

Catch you soon on the "actual" side...

SJ
