I was prescribed neurontin by a pain specialist after I broke my ankle 4 years ago. I have RSD (Reflexive sympythatic dystrophy)which adds to the chemical messages sent to my brain when I experience pain. The chemical pain messages just keep on sending... My foot was so swollen and so painful that I was unable to walk for over 10 months, even physical therapy was almost impossible. After about 3 days on Neurontin my nerve pain became much less and so my foot's swelling went down enough that I was able to walk. It took me those 4 days to get to a high enough dose to have this miracle drug work. I think it began to work for me at about 400 mgs once a day. This is 4 years later and I have been taking it only before bed all of this time. I have been at 800 or 600 mgs for most of this time. I am beginning to feel good enough that I want to try and wean myself down and see if my pain gets worse. I still have burning, but it isn't the main thing in my life like it was before neurontin. I'm on line now looking for info about how to wean myself.
