I will respond to one of your points. No, you can't get a share of the Local's investment gains.

What you CAN do is look at the Local's financial report. Go here:
http://kcerds.dol-esa.gov/query/getOrgQry.do
In the dropdown menu to the right of "Union Name", select IBT-Teamsters. Then in the box to the right of "Designation Number" type 986. Then click on "Submit". The latest report that is up is for 2007. The 2008 report is supposed to be posted by March 31.
