It could actually be worse. It could be like the Local 831 Decorators Union. Here is a Union where veteran Journeymen sit home while relatives and new hires work every day. And they have no protection. They never file grievances. That Union is the absolute worst and one to be ashamed of. It is just bilking the members out of their dues money because they have no withdrawal card and must continue to pay dues even when they are layed off. Tell me that doesn't suck.

"The Buffett Rule is common sense. At a time when we have significant deficits to close and serious investments to make to strengthen our economy, we simply cannot afford to keep spending money on tax cuts that the wealthiest Americans don't need and didn't ask for. But it's also about basic fairness – it's just plain wrong that millions of middle-class Americans pay a higher share of their income in taxes than some millionaires and billionaires. America prospers when we're all in it together and everyone has the opportunity to succeed."

Santorum suggests that re-electing Obama would be better than a Romney presidency -- No name, 03/23/12 5:38am
Rick Santorum suggested Thursday that re-electing President Barack Obama would be better than electing Republican rival Mitt Romney, a statement that is arguably his toughest criticism of Romney to date.

"You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told supporters in San Antonio. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future."

Santorum was referring to Romney, whose campaign strategist said recently that they would be able to "reset" the campaign when they transition to the general election "like an Etch A Sketch."

Romney, Who Has Two Harvard Degrees, Says Obama Spent ‘Too Much Time At Harvard’ -- No name, 04/ 7/12 3:51pm

Speaking at his Pennsylvania campaign headquarters this morning, Mitt Romney attacked President Obama as out of touch for spending too much time at Harvard, where the president went to law school. “We have a president, who I think is is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard, perhaps,” Romney said.

Unfortunately for Romney, his attack is undermined by the fact that the GOP presidential hopeful has twice as many degrees from Harvard as Obama. Romney earned a combined JD/MBA from the elite Cambridge, Massachusetts university. That means Romney spent an extra year at Harvard, getting the combined degree in four years, compared to Obama’s three for the JD alone. Indeed, Romney thrived at Harvard by all accounts.

Romney has previously attacked Obama for taking advice from the “Harvard faculty lounge,” even though one of Romney’s top economic advisers is Harvard professor Greg Mankiw.

MOLINE, Illinois (Reuters) - Republican White House hopeful Rick Santorum said on Monday he did not care about the U.S. unemployment rate, perhaps the nation's most closely watched economic indicator, despite being embroiled in a campaign largely focused on the still-sputtering economy.

"I don't care what the unemployment rate is going to be. It doesn't matter to me. My campaign doesn't hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates," Santorum said during a campaign appearance in Illinois, which on Tuesday holds the next contest in the state-by-state battle for the Republican presidential nomination.

PSAV employees doing Teamster work in Anaheim -- No name, 07/28/11 11:42pm
Some Local 986 members took pictures of PSAV employees unloading trucks for a gaming show that took place at the Anaheim Convention Center. Show Ready (Doug Murphy) did the decorating on the show and for some reason, these A/V people handled the freight. These pictures were taken on 7/27/11.

Notice the 3rd picture. They were trying to stand up a tall crate that they had just dropped. Fucking professionals!

This is what is going on while dues paying Teamster members are sitting at home not working. Of course the local was called and of course the response was negligible.

I was sitting at a stoplight yesterday ....minding my own business, waiting for it to turn green. A carload of young, loud Mexicans shouting anti-American slogans stopped next to me.

The light changed, the Mexicans shook their fists, hit the gas and darted off ahead of me.

Suddenly an 18-wheeler came speeding through and ran directly over their car, crushing it completely.

For several minutes I sat in my car thinking to myself, "Man, that could have been me!"

So, today...bright and early, I went out and got me a job as a truck driver.

upcoming proposal meeting -- No name, 12/ 3/11 1:45pm
Proposal meeting? I think it's going to be another horse & donkey show. I believe that Wes has called this meeting because the heat has been turned up under his ass about proper procedures & membersip notification in regaurds to contract negotiations. I feel the only way we will get proper representation, without any (private,behind closed doors agreements)that which happen last contract, I believe the N.L.R.B. should be called in to oversee this years contract negotiations.... ANYBODY DISAGREE?

Hoffa wins re-election as Teamsters president -- No name, 11/21/11 10:56pm

Teamsters President James P. Hoffa was re-elected to a fourth term heading the 1.4-million member union.
Hoffa won nearly 59 percent of 233,317 votes cast for the five-year term that starts next March.
Hoffa had 137,172 votes, compared with 54,148 for Teamster Fred Gegare and 39,251 for Sandy Pope.
"This is not just our slate's victory but a victory for all working Americans who are fighting to save America's middle class. We traveled across this country to mobilize our members to fight the right-wing attack on workers," Hoffa said in a statement. "Teamster members responded because they know it is not workers who are to blame for the crisis facing America — it is the greed and corruption of big business and Wall Street, and their bought-and-paid-for puppets in Congress."
In a Detroit News interview last week, Hoffa said the union was talking to airline pilots as part of its current organizing efforts.
"This is a vindication for everything we've worked for," Hoffa said. "We've worked to keep the union strong during the worst economy in 80 years."
The union has voiced support for the Occupy Wall Street movement and has said the economic climate is encouraging more people to join unions.
"People need a union more than ever today," Hoffa said.
The defeat in Ohio of efforts to restrict collective bargaining was a sign of overreaching by Republicans, Hoffa said. He said that people, including even some Teamsters, have expressed regret to him for voting for Republicans in 2010 elections.
"They are seeing that Republicans want right-to-work, they want to take away collective bargaining for public employees," Hoffa said. "They are for tax cuts for the rich and passing on expenses to the poor."
Gegare is a Wisconsin Teamster who joined Local 75 in 1972 and has served in a number of positions. He's also a trustee on one of the nation's largest pension funds and Teamsters international vice president.
Pope is a former truck driver, warehouse worker and steel-hauler, and is president of Teamsters Local 805 in New York City.
Hoffa plans to be active in the 2012 elections, stumping for President Barack Obama and union-friendly candidates. Hoffa was one of the first labor leaders to endorse Obama in February 2008 for president.
Earlier this year, Hoffa gave a fiery speech in Detroit on Labor Day ahead of Obama's appearance.
The Teamsters have made organizing new members a top priority. Last week, the union announced that a majority of the nearly 20,000 correctional, probation and parole officers with the Florida Department of Corrections voted to join the Teamsters.
The union also faces contract talks with UPS in 2013. The Teamsters represents 240,000 workers at the shipping giant; it's the largest bargaining unit at any company in the nation.
By contrast, the United Auto Workers represents about 117,000 workers at Detroit's Big Three.
Michigan is home to about 50,000 Teamsters and 35,000 Teamster retirees.
Hoffa is set in the coming months to surpass his father's 13 years as head of the Teamsters.
Hoffa was a lawyer for the Teamsters from 1968 to 1993. He lost an election for Teamsters president in 1996, before winning a new election in December 1998.
Born in Detroit in 1941, Hoffa graduated from Cooley High School. He holds a degree in economics from Michigan State University and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
Hoffa, who is a big Detroit Lions and Michigan State sports fan, splits his time between Washington, where the Teamsters are headquartered, and Oakland County, where he has a home.

This is my open letter to Teamsters for a Democratic Union and Sandy Pope:

Fuck You! Thanks to all the negative crap you put out about the Teamsters I'm now going to be a member of the machinists union. I have never been in a union until the Teamsters came in and helped us organize 2 years ago. We got a good first contract and have a great local union that is there for us, all of us, whenever we need them. I'm going to miss Robert and the entire local 19 membership. Our brother mechanics have been there every step of the way. We really were on our way to having strength under the wing.

Then when it was time to vote the machinists started putting out all kinds of material showing what "Teamsters are saying about the Teamsters" It was all the crap that TDU and Sandy Pope say about Hoffa's failures at Continental and United. Fuck you. You don't work here. You never put a day in helping us deal with management. Now I have to go to the machinists who do NOTHING for their members unless they work for Boeing. They even posted a video of Sandy Pope fighting for the machinists at Boeing.

I guess that's it. I loved being a Teamster and I hope that one day I will be again. I'll miss our meetings at the church. I'll miss the camradire.

So thanks guys for fucking me and my co-workers over - you have a lot to be proud of.

James Hoffa has been reelected Teamster president.

Less than 20 percent of members voted. Hoffa will get the vote of about one-tenth of all Teamsters. That’s a win, but hardly a mandate.

Most members sat out the election. Many are disgusted or discouraged.

When members are angry, they can give up and throw in the towel. Or they can get involved and make a difference. TDU’s job is to turn that anger into organization and action.

A strong union depends on active, informed members—not just dues-payers.

Where TDU has active members, participation was higher. In the locals won by Sandy Pope, turnout was higher. Members had some hope for the future and encouraged fellow Teamsters to vote. In many areas where members got involved in the Pope campaign, a majority of Teamsters voted against Hoffa.

Where to Now?

It’s pretty simple. Teamsters who want a member-driven union need to pitch in and join TDU. Help educate ourselves and our fellow Teamsters. Become a part of the future for the Teamsters Union.

We are not sitting around waiting for the next election, five years away. There are important contracts coming up—and local union elections where members are organizing for change. We have union power to build.

Sandy Pope didn’t run for her ego or to get a big salary. She could have taken the easy route long ago.

Sandy ran to make a difference for the future. She’s done that, even though she fell short in the vote. She helped carry on a proud tradition of Teamster reform and rank-and-file power.

We intend to build on that foundation. Our union and working people across North America face tremendous challenges—an economic depression and attacks on our contracts, benefits and rights by Wall Street, Corporate America and corporate politicians.

There are tough fights ahead. TDU will be there—educating, informing and uniting members to build the strong Teamsters Union and labor movement we need to fight for our future.

Our campaign to elect new leadership didn't succeed. But we can be proud of what we accomplished.

We put forward a positive program. We gave members hope for the future. And we got members involved in turning our union around. These are all things to build on for the future.

Hoffa Elected To Fourth Term By Overwhelming Margin

(WASHINGTON) – International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa, his running mate for General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall and their entire slate, were elected today by a wide margin in the 2011 Election of International Union Officers. According to unofficial results provided by the Office of the Election Supervisor, the Hoffa-Hall Slate defeated their two challengers with 60 percent of the vote.

“The members have spoken,” Hoffa said. “This is not just our slate’s victory but a victory for all working Americans who are fighting to save America’s middle class. We traveled across this country to mobilize our members to fight the right-wing attack on workers. Teamster members responded because they know it is not workers who are to blame for the crisis facing America – it is the greed and corruption of big business and Wall Street and their bought and paid for puppets in Congress.

“Now that this election is completed we will intensify our efforts in the fight for all working families,” Hoffa added. “The Teamsters strength is in organizing the unorganized, fighting for strong health care, good wages, secure retirement, and holding employers and politicians accountable.”

Hall told supporters that he was humbled by the overwhelming support of the members and pledged to ramp up the campaign against corporate greed.

“We will never let up in the ongoing battle to provide good wages, benefits and working conditions for our 1.4 million members across North America, and organize tens of thousands of unrepresented workers. The right-wing corporate interests that are trying to destroy America’s middle class will find an energized and mobilized Teamsters Union that will fight to defend the principles that made this country great.”

The Hoffa-Hall Slate swept all five regions of the Union, the East, Central, South, West and Canada.

Hoffa first took office following his victory in December 1998 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2006 by substantial margins. By winning today, Hoffa is elected to another five-year term that will begin in mid-March 2012.

Having held office for nearly 13 years, Hoffa is the third longest serving General President in the 108 year history of the Teamsters Union. Only Dan Tobin, who served for 47 years, and James R. Hoffa, who served for 14 years, have held office longer.

The country’s most recognized labor leader, Hoffa has been in the forefront in the fight to block anti-union legislation that popped up in states across the country following the 2010 off-year elections. He dubbed the right-wing offensive the “War on Workers” and has spent the last year leading rallies in Ohio, California, Wisconsin, Michigan and dozens of other states threatened by the anti-union forces.

Hoffa’s efforts culminated in the overwhelming victory for union members in Ohio this past Tuesday when Ohio voters defeated Issue 2, an anti-union measure that would have severely weakened collective bargaining rights for more than 350,000 public employees.

“Ohio voters sent a wake-up call to American politicians: If you try to blame workers for problems caused by Wall Street you will pay a price. If you attack workers, you will lose. But if you stand up and fight for the middle class, you can win,” Hoffa said.

Hoffa, Hall and their slate pledged to continue the progress the Teamsters have made in national bargaining, organizing and political action.

“2012 will be a watershed year for Teamsters and for this nation,” Hoffa said. “Under our leadership, the Teamsters Union will continue to be a force for change and will lead our nation in efforts to improve the lives of working families.”

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, including more than 240,000 public service employees.
