In sending out links, I came to find I missed posting 4 photos from the 2017 Expo, which I fix now, and it seems fitting these get featured in this last post. The Cider Sniffers are IMHO, the Ultimate Model makers, and not just static models they make, but from original blueprints, scaled down into new drawings, castings produced, machined, assembled and tweaked into running condition Trains, and they are run on their own custom train layout on 3 acres of land, accommodating 5 gauges. These trains are able to pull their engineers and a few cars of riders along the complete and fully detailed course. Truly the ultimate of sight, sound, and motion in modeling!!! Clearly not something you can just go buy, rip open the box, and start playing with.
These guys were around when the Show at EJ was the Mini Model Engineering Show, which was ended for various reasons. I then asked the following year if EJ would consider doing a new series of Shows, open to ALL kinds of model making and related hobbies, not just one genre, or scale, or topical theme. Hence from the EJ Show Manager ....
The 2016 edition of the Model Engineering Show is getting a new name. We are calling it The SCALE MODEL EXPO, a name that better conveys the message that the show is a showcase of high quality scale model work of all kinds.
The time it takes to make these working jewels is beyond the experience of most other hobbyists, as new pieces just don't get popped out in a few weeks, or even months, and because they can't be run at the Expo, maybe beyond running the lights and bells, many times they get just a quick glance before people move on to other things. The new series of Expos are indeed wide open to many hobbies, and these guys are indeed in many ways the pioneers. Proof you can do something beyond just staring at screens with pixel items running about, and instead of wishing there was a show to go to, you can make your own.
