Doug’s first true military engagement against the “enemy” was during the Occupation of Veracruz when he was engaged by several Mexican counter revolutionary force irregulars. This was not the first time he was engaged by armed men though. Doug was sent to the Philippines after the Philippine insurrection and while doing some engineer stuff when he was ambushed by two men who were basically outlaws (insurrection guerillas that never truly gave up and turned into outlaws after the insurrection was quelled). One shot and grazed the top of his campaign hat, but Mac shot them both and killed them.
