[ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 04:30:01 01/17/06 Tue Philippines no. 2 over-all in 2005 beauty pageants VENEZUELA IS STILL THE BEAUTY PAGEANT POWERHOUSE OF 2005 Venezuela was able to defend its title as the beauty rhouse of the world when it was named Country of the year by the Beauty World Cup website for the year 2005. Beauty World Cup ranks all countries according to their performance in the four major beauty pageants: Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Earth and Miss World, and in minor pageants as well. The ranking was based on the titles won and placements and not by point system so in order to be judged over-all champion, a country must at least win a major pageant crown! Venezuela ranked no. 1 over-all by winning the Miss Earth 05 crown and by placing 4th runner-up in Miss Universe 05 and semi-finalist in Miss International 05. Venezuela also captured the Miss Intercontinental crown. Philippines placed second by winning the Miss International 05 crown, placing in the semi-finals of both Miss Earth and Miss World and a Miss Photogenic award in Miss Universe. Philippines captured several titles in 2005 as well like Miss Italia Nel Mondo 2005, Miss Model of the World 2005 and Miss Asean and a handful of placements in other minor pageants. If the Philippines were able to placed in the finals of Miss World like what it did 3 years in a row since 2002, it should have won the title country of the year instead of Venezuela. Placing 3rd overall is Canada which grabbed last year's first major crown: Miss Universe. 4th overall is Iceland who've just recently won the Miss World pageant. 5th is Dominican Republic who were able to place 2nd in both Miss International and Miss Earth and 3rd in Miss Universe. Only 49 countries were able to make their presence felt in 2005 with regards to beauty pageants. A very good year for Philippines, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic and a bad year for former powerhouse India.
