My dad was a great guy and had a great personality. I would like to know if anyone out there remembers him. I remember being a kid and traveling with my dad back to Canarsie from Long Island. Going to see family and friends. Grabbing lunch at Grabsteins, Going to Baskin Robbins, down the block from his old house. Going by Canarsie Pier. He's gone but definitely not forgotten. Anyone interested in attending a double Canarsie HS/South Shore HS reunion?
The idea is to make it a jumbo reunion for the ultra good-looking and cool classes of 1982 - 1986, as we all have extremely busy lives. (Inclusion of 1981 & up to 1988 is also an option).
Plus, our neighborhood didn't promote the best school spirit, so this way we can guarantee at least 200 - 300 people attending.
Tables can be set up according to HS & graduating year.
Those who didn't graduate CHS or SSHS for whatever reason(but who would have in those years) are also invited.

If the response rate is decent, I'll seriously start planning this for a Saturday night, either in January, 2005, or July, 2005.
This way, some of you have some time to lose 20 pounds,
work out, get lipo and hair transplants:-)
This reunion concept depends on the feedback I get.
We'll have it somewhere nice, either in NYC (either a hotel ballroom like the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton, or a cool lounge-type place like Metronome).

Hi all you Rockaway Parkway people: I lived at 405 Rockaway Parkway from 1946 to 1958 when my mother remarried and we moved to hostile territory in Marine Park. Luckily I only lived there for a short time before we moved to Canarsie and was able to go to Tilden HS where I reconnected with former Brownsville people. I had a twin brother, Stuie and an older brother, Marvin who was 8 years older than us. The 50s on Rockaway Parkway was wonderful. There was Bungalow Bar Ice Cream and great snowball fights when the sanitation trucks piled the up the snow on Rockaway Parkway. I remember the parade when the Rosenbergs were executed in 1953. My twin brother is going to write a play about our building and the different ethnic groups who lived there as the years went by. Please email me if you would like to share memories. I'm trying to track down Michael Rotola and anyone else from Canarsie that used to hang out in the West Village during the 60s (Cafe Wa, the Loving Spoonful, etc.). Mike used to live on Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie and had a sister, and a younger brother. He was about 19 back then, in like 1966, or '67.

I lived at 196 Rockaway Parkway from 1946 to 1960 and went to PS 219 and PS 252 Somer JHS. Across the street from my apartment was a big circular bank. Nearby was Goldring Motors, sand lots that later got filled in with buildings. The elevated trains of the New Lots line would screetch around the bend as they headed down Livonia Street. Canarsie Reunion for this summer is officially set.
The date is Sunday, July 8th.
The time is reserved from 9 am to dusk, but everyone should be arriving between 11 am and 12:30 pm.
The place is Eisenhower Park on LONG ISLAND.
Picnic Area is "Cedars" & "South Maples".
Parking area is Field 6A.
There is a $15 fee per person. Children under 12 are FREE.
Bring your own food and drinks. We will have ice, condiments, paper goods, plastic utencils, etc. Alcohol is permitted (basically beer & wine).
There should be a pretty good turnout of us Canarsians this year. Try and be there. The kids have a ball, and it's pretty cool to see those you shared the streets of Brooklyn with, back then.
Leave all attitudes and bad moods at home, please.
