Let us begin from the end.

When a card enters a box, VTrain starts counting again from that very date. This means that counting happens independently in every separate Box.

On the other hand, you say "If after 30 days away from vTrain I successfully answer a question in box 1, it should advance to box 4". This is not implement. The card will be sent to the next box, which is Box 2 in your example.

However, we plan to implement this feature. See "Automatic adaption of Schedule of Repetitions" in VTrain Features > Your wishlist.
