Well, I found out about the vtrain program through the following site,
http://webs.ono.com/usr032/learners/flash-v.htm#VTrain
But I found this forum thanks to Google! I have been trying to decipher the program for hours now, and I must admit that the documentation is really extensive, BUT, I should say that, for the purposes of learning Arabic, I am now totally lost on internationalization and unicode stuff. The website and the help files are extensive, alright, but the language is very stiff-it reads like a treatise on abstract algebra, or Quantum Electro-dynamics. I have read some pages three times, but I still have not grasped their full meaning.
By now I have understood that copying&pasting Unicode characters are not possible for the time being. It is a real letdown, because I was hoping to make use of the opensource Arabic-English glossary at:
http://www.arabeyes.org/project.php?proj=Wordlist
The first keyboard mapper you suggest at
http://www.paul-raedle.de/vtrain/fonts.htm#arabic
is Keymapper, isn't it good for Unicode characters?
Using the Windows keymapper, I tried to enter some Arabic text in the Clipt2vt program (old version) to the back side by switching to the Arabic keyboard (via Windows), and the charactes appear in the Card view mode, but when I switch to List mode, ??????? is all I get.
I have tried to look into the .VOK file to see how it was configured, but it is very cryptic. I suppose ANSI 1252 is the default codepage for English, but I could not figure out the single byte codepage used for Arabic.
When I select Fonts for either side, there is an item named "Scripts" in the Fonts window. I suppose changing it to Arabic works only in the Unicode scheme, so it would not have any effect in your program. Am I mistaken?
