There is no consensus about this in scientific literature. In fact, it is very difficult to determine which scheme is better "on average". It depends on your previous skills and, yes, the contents of each flashcard. This is why you can customize the intervals in VTrain, in terms of minutes, days, and weeks (see Cardfile menu | Scheduling...).
