• Grand Opening of Cwmtillery Rugby Pitch -- Lewis Cooper, Sun, Aug 17 2008, 10:30:31
  It was about 1956 that the Rugby Pitch near the Top Hat was opened. To mark the occasion Cwmtillery played against Ernie Lewis' 15.
  I remember Tony O' Reilly (now Sir Anthony) who played for Ireland and the Lions played on the wing. I got his autograph as he left the Zion Chapel which was used as a Changing Room.

  I was wondering why areas of the Coity mountain appear stripey when looked at from Mynnyd James.I was walking up there and around the reservoir on Thursday.It's the 1st time for me even though I've lived in Abertillery all my life(nearly 50 years)sometimes you can't believe the beauty you have on your own doorstep!!

  My grandmother lived in Cwmtillery as a girl - the family name was Morse and as so many they were a mining family. Her name is Audrey and some of the other children were Percy (killed after a mining accident aged 31), Rose, and Eric. Their father's name was William. She was married in the village church in 1939 (or thereabouts) to George Rutterford - and they are still happily married and going strong living in Mill Hill - does anyone remember the family?

  I was just wondering does anyone know what the plan for the land where the upside down houses used to be?
  I have asked the council once again and all they say,there might be private developers using the land. I have lived in hill crest view all my life and would like to see either a park for the children or maybe a community hall put there. This i have talked about to the council, all they say is that they havent got the money to spend for something like that. I just dont know what to think anymore about the council and what might happen to hill crest view. It seems to be going to the dogs in cwmtillery. Does anyone feel the same?

  Any in formation on or did you know Ron Watkins - Manager Cwmtillery Colliery late 1940's to early 1950's
  Sadly he passed away aged just 66 in 1984 - I still miss him, he was my much loved grandfather. Would absolutely love to hear from anyone who can remember him or has any info at all about him from that time?
