Tracing WARFIELD Family History -- Phil Small, Sun, Apr 17 2005, 14:48:30
I have been tracing for some time now my paternal Grandmother's WARFIELD ancestors who originated (as far back as I go) from Glastonbury (1790-1796). From there in the late 1700 to early 1800's they migrated to the Somerset coal fields and then in the late 1800 and early 1900's to the coal and iron industries of Monmouthshire and Glamorgan. I have an extensive family tree with conections to other areas of the UK and the coal fields of the Eastern USA. I am looking for more information on WARFIELD's still residing in Gwent/Glamorgan and especially the Abertillery, Cwm/Ebbw Vale and Tredegar areas also any other 'budding' Genealogists who are researching this surname.
Thank you in anticipation......

My father, John Jones, was born at the above address in 1912 and I am wondering whether the cottage still exists.
My father emigrated to Australia in 1928.
My grandfather's name was Edward Jones of the same address.
My grandfather died sometime after 1928. By that time, I understand that he had moved to Crumlin and had lived in sight of the Crumlin viaduct.
Any information will be thankfully received.

- Has BGCBC lost the plot!!!! The regeneration plans for Abertillery include the erection of a picnic patio over the river behind the library in front of the back of the old Bush Hotel. Is this part of their new vision for Blaenau Gwent. Nice shady spot surrounded by trees, overlooking the river, panoramic views of???? and litter. Captures the great beauty of our natural environment and the wealth of wildlife, gnats and rats with the unique aroma of the river stinky. -- Amazed, Sun, Dec 04 2005, 14:38:29

Hello Cwmtilleri and hope you had a very Merry Christmas, and an even better new year.I wonder if any of your patrons can solve a mystery(to me anyway)for me.I posted a similar message at Abertilleri, I recently downloaded the free version of google earth(hours of fun here looking at your districts, although the images are at least three or four years old).Scanning some of the mountains around Abertilleri, i came across some strange earthworks or excavations, they were on top of the mountain between Aber and the end of the new cwm bypass.Anything been going on up there in the last few years?.They look Archaeological to me, but they could be the remains of old buildings i suppose.Anyway, thanks for any help in advance, and download google earth, great fun, especially when you use the angle viewer over the valleys, it's like a three D image. Cheers.

- ASIAN EARTHQUAKE APPEAL -- CHERYL, Fri, Nov 04 2005, 12:30:40
TO raise funds for this much needed appeal we have organised a fund raising night at the Dolls House on Thursday November 17 at 7.30.
Abertillery’s own “High Spirits”, will be waiting to entertain you along with “Generation Hot Rods”, which is made up of Mike Love, his son, Wayne Love:, Dai Edwards, his son, Mark Edwards and Mark’s son, Jamie Edwards.---a real family affair.
As you may all recall Mike Love and Dave Edwards were two of the original players with the “Hot Rods” way back in the 60’s but their music is as much alive today as it was then.
If you are too young to recall them, then please pop along and see what you missed all those years ago!
For the best in Rock n Roll then head for the Dolls House.
Tickets are only £3.50 and are available now from me at the shop, or from the Dolls House.
Come on folks, you pulled out all the stops for the Tsunami appeal; let’s do the same for this one.
The evening will be compered by the multi talented Mike Love and he and both groups have all given freely of their time and talents to raise much needed funds for this appeal.

I lived all my life untill I was 24 in Cwmtillery. Does anyone remember me? I lived at Gladstone Buildings
next to Gwyneths shop, with my parents Des & June Young, and brother Glenn untill I was 14, then we all moved into a house that my dad built up at the old Top Rows. Ours was the first house built to replace the old houses (I believe
there are quite a few there now) the only other house was an old prefab that had been bricked around at the other end. My 'best friends when I was Small were Jane Price and Janet Thomas-where are they now? Later my friends were
Carol Davidson(later Harding) and Shirley Jones(later Penny) I went to Bleantillery Infants, The British School, Gelli Crug School, The Grammer School and Nantyglo Comp. My paternal Grand Parents were Gwyn & Olga Young Of Gwern Berthi Road.By the way what happened to Tony & Sandra Bradley who ran the Post Office in Gwern Berthi? I went to West Bank Chapel,Mr.Whiltshire & Miss Day were the teachers. And I can remember catching 'Taddies'down the
'Jinny' and up on the old brown tip, playing in the brook that ran through the 'Reck' playground, playing on the winder that was under the bridge on the west side,so many happy memories. Iam now the Mother of 7 and Grandmother of 9,we all live in Somerset, have done for 20 odd years now but like a true Welshman I am very proud of my home. Gods Own People From Gods Own Land. I would love to hear from anyone who knew us.

MRS Betty Glazier (nee Davies) has contacted me to see if anyone has information on holidays given to children between 1937-38.
She believes the 1939 holiday was cancelled because of the impending war.
Mrs Glazier attended Crown St Infants, Cock & Chick, Cwmtillery Junior, Gelli Grug Junior, Queen Street, The British and finally Gelli Crug Central.
At Gelli Crug they used to play a team game called Target – does anyone remember this?

So its back to School as this Album has 6 photos from the British and Gelli Grug schools days. British School approximately 1957 - 1958/9 and 1959/60. Gelli Crug 1953 - 1961/2 Netball Team - 1963 There are a few people in some of the photos we can't put a name to, if you think you can help, please let me know.

- Family Tree -- Wayne Kedward, Tue, Apr 12 2005, 11:06:59
I am researching my grandfathers family tree. His name was Augustus Kedward born 1886 and he was the sixth child of James Kedward and Ellen Veal of 54 West Side Cwmtillery. His brothers and sisters (in order of birth) were Thomas Henry, Eliza Anne, James, Frank, Robert (emigrated to America), Nellie, Minnie and Emma.
Augustus was from a mining family and I believe he was a miner in the 6 Bells Colliery. He emigrated to Australia at the turn of the century.
I am interested in making contact with any Kedwards still living in the area.

- moving to cwmtillery -- steph, Tue, Mar 22 2005, 0:16:19
Hi, I am thinking of moving to cwmtillery, and would appreciate any information on what it is like to live there. I have only seen the area briefly when viewing houses, and it seems to be a beautiful location with stunning scenery. Is it a quiet place to live? Are there problems with youths / crime etc. I have read about the recent creeper burglaries. Please help with any thoughts you have on the subject, thanks a lot.

- East Cwmtillery -- Jon Nixey, Fri, Feb 11 2005, 8:32:50
While researching my family tree, I came across an address on the census returns for East Cwmtillery. Following the house number was either IWC or LWC. Does anyone know what that stands for? I'm assuming the enumerator couldn't spell the name of the road or street etc, and so abbreviated it? any suggestions very welcome! Thanks all, Jon.
