...how a person of distinguished character feels? I doubt a person of distingusihed character would allow himself (or herself) to know you.
Then again, maybe you work for one. Being of distinguished character, he has to make you think you are valuable to his organization, even if it takes every fibre of his being not to visibly retch in your presence.
