Subject: Some Notes
In reply to: Kuzibah 's message, "Rewatching Buffy: Listening to Fear" on 08:35:01 06/02/09 Tue

Listening to Fear: Joyce marks time until her surgery. And gets a revelation about Dawn. And we get more hints that there is a connection between Ben and Glory. (Obviously, but what kind?)

Buffy: Trying to be uber-strong for everyone else, but almost breaking down in private. And not letting anyone close enough to see the latter, which is a problem for several reasons including...

Riley: Continuing to spin out of control. Having a vampire suck on his arm a somewhat insane move. At least calling in the successors to the Initiative was constructive.

Dawn is starting to suspect that something odd is going on. Doesn't realize exactly what yet. Nice bit of resourcefulness in chasing the monster out of the room.

Willow: "Tiny Jewish Santa" is just cute. So is her scene with Tara just before they see the meteorite.

Like the Scoobies in research mode. Kind of sweet them trying not to bother Buffy. Although it probably would have been better if they had.

Spike continues with his obsession, although it actually proves useful this time.

Still not clear why precisely Ben wanted to call in the Queller.

And we close on Joyce realizing that Dawn isn't REALLY her daughter, but still feels like she is. And Buffy confirming that Joyce is right.

And then Joyce gets wheeled into the operating room. With Buffy, Dawn, and the other Scoobies watching.

The Trial: Angel continues trying to help Darla. And W&H continues playing their game with him.

In a sense, the "trials" are tailor-made for Angel. He likes being the hero. And self-sacrifice is deeply ingrained into his personality. Then he learns that passing the "trials" didn't actually help.

And just when he's desperate and exhausted, W&H strikes--bringing in Drusilla to vamp Darla.

Thus setting up the next episode.

I dunno why I can't get here on time. I apologize.

Those Quellor demons were MIGHTY creepy. I haven't done any research on them yet, but it sure looked like they were using a combination of a little person and a double amputee to get those effects.

CREE. PY.

I loved Joyce's blathering at the ceiling. We knew what we were going to see and it was STILL a shock when the reveal came. nicely done.

Meanwhile, Riley serves no useful purpose and gets his arm sucked on. Eh.

I'm with Kuzibah. The writers obviously had no idea what to do with the character after The Intiative got cemented and he simply languished. Even I have to admit that I would like to have seen the character grow and do SOMEthing. A pretty face is not reason enough to keep a character around and he was wisely written out. More on that next time.

Willow was extremely cute in her double-staking-afterglow. Go you, Willow! Go you indeed.

I am increasingly impressed by Michelle Trachtenberg's acting chops, but the writers and directors seem to keep forgetting that Buffy was Dawn's age when the show started. Let her act a little more her age instead of 10.

Thanks for not kicking me out of the club for being late... again.
