The problem as I see it is that a happy Buffy makes for poor drama so as long as she is the main character, Joss is going to make her miserable. I probably (understatement) have invested too much in Buffy's welfare but at the end of Chosen I went off thinking that the girl was going to have some fun and lead a more normal life. Season 8 has dashed all those hopes which makes me a bit sad.
