I understand the sexual identity issue this way. A woman like Willow has internal feelings and attitudes which she doesn't fully understand. She expresses those feelings and attitudes in one way early in her life. Later on, she finds a different form of expression and, with the benefit of that new experience, re-evaluates or reinterprets her feelings and attitudes such that she considers herself "always" gay, notwithstanding seemingly inconsistent behavior.

As an aside, about a month ago, my wife put on Surprise after our daughter went to bed. We are now up to No Place Like Home ( One of my personal favorites.) Having not watched these for a long time, I am struck by how much they are as good or better than I remember them, superior to anything available on TV now. And I find that every moment of Season Five just leaps off the screen as some of the most brilliant and exciting television ever created.

I recently re-watched the entire series. One interesting part of that experience is that some of the little things which bothered me the first time through (say, the physically impossible capture of the demon in Doomed) no longer do. This means I enjoy the episodes even more. And yeah, it's still brilliant, to the point where I feel like writing about it.
