That was an interesting analysis. I would just make the point that when Spike was given back his soul, he stayed pretty much the kind of guy he became as a vampire.
I love this whole series--I mean I really do! But I always thought that the writers painted themselves into a corner with the soul being the conscience and all. It worked well for the Angel situation, but then, there are the contradictions.
If we accept the soul's existence, everyone has one. But there are lot of people--even people in the Buffy/Angel sagas that did some pretty bad things, even though they had souls.
