I do believe the heart plays the major role in blood flow. When the heart stops working you are in serious trouble and not destined to live for all that long.

I think blood flow in vampires is purely supernatural. The fact that vampires do not breath really makes one major aspect of blood flow, the delivery of oxygen, superfluous. It has also been noted that vampires do not need to eat so another aspect of blood flow, the delivery of nutrients, is also not required. I really do not see that vampires require blood flow and in fact I am a bit sketchy on why they even require fresh blood, especially when pigs blood (or for the more wealthy vampires otters blood) works just as well as human blood. As Spike has said about Dawn’s blood, it is always the blood i.e. bloods role is purely mystical. I think it is all make believe and any attempt to construct a physically consistent theory of vampire physiology is doomed to failure.
