"anybody's been in a position to let me know" while they are reclined in her bedroom. I think so! If two people are in the same room, almost in bed, angsting over one another, and they use the word position, they are flirting. He was telling her how long it has been, letting her know he is on the market but also amping it up a little while keeping all of the info you cite under the cuff. Great line IMO.
