I think the leaf on the wind part is well addressed below. As for the albatross, I can think of 3 things:

The actual bird (which, btw, is 1 of the world's best gliders & can stay aloft for hours w/out once flapping its wings--a good augur for Wash's landing--but, unlike Wash, tends to live out its full natural lifespan, at least until recently)

The sailors' legend Mal cited: that having albatrosses fly near your ship is good luck, but killing one is bad luck (which I confess I was rather proud to know before Mal said it, & surprised that Mr. Highly Cultured Operative didn't know)

The poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Coleridge, whose title character, the only survivor of a sunken ship, killed an albatross & had the dead bird hung around his neck by his fellow sailors (I never read the whole thing, but I know some of the lines--the most famous are probably "Water, water, every where/Nor any drop to drink." I based my subject line on one right near the beginning: "It is an ancient Mariner/And he stoppeth one of three.") Do you have to read it? That's up to you. It's pretty long. @>)
