True, but he also knew full well that he was in the presence of a vengeance demon who could--had to--grant his wish. Yes, he could've finished speaking his wish, but I think the reason he didn't was out of consideration for Anya, augmented by the feeling she put into her "Don't," rather than any kindness toward Xander. Buffy's presence as a sort of parallel to Xander (in terms of being someone hurt by Spike & Anya's having sex), as well as his own commiseration w/Anya that led to the sex, might have contributed too. But I doubt it was any direct sympathy for Xander that made him hold his tongue.

Oh, & if you want to be clear? 'Splainy, please, on the ref's. to babies & hospitals, 'cuz those flew waaayy over my head.
