Actually, they seem to be targeting shows across the board. I have seen numerous non-ME shows (The Simpsons and various other Fox shows which do not have an ME connection that I am aware of). I think Universal is going all out to try to capture the non-Browncoats and non-Whedon fans. It took me a bit to warm up to Firefly but now I am of the opinion that if it had run for comparable time frame as Buffy or Angel, it might well have been Joss’s best show. I really felt that neither Buffy nor Angel really hit their stride until season two but FF was up and running within the first eight episodes (as designed, not as aired due to the Fox decision to air out of order). My love of all things Joss has had me worried that I had lost any remaining critical facility in evaluating TV. I needed to find some shows to dislike. Luckily, finding shows to dislike does not seem to be too much of a problem – there is still plenty of whale dreck out there. I am pulling for the success of Serenity as I want to see more Joss product.
