The Bad Guy: Pretty much felt like "Early Lite"...If JW was going to go this way, I wish he'd just gone ahead and brought back Richard Brooks.

He was meant to reference Early, but Early, IMO, was an irredeemable monster. The Nameless has a code of values and morals that leave him at the end, if not redeemable, more reasonable. Could you have seen Early having that conversation with Mal at the end? Early would not have fit into the more optimistic vision Joss had in the conclusion of this film.
