I think part of the reason we're horrified by what happened to the people on Miranda is because of our survival instinct/need to recreate ourselves. In terms of the people who lost their drives...the end probably didn't matter to them. They had a sort of bliss. The wrong sort, because it was forced on them- but they'd been 'freed' from the cycle of desire and the happiness/pain that comes along with it. As others have said, the Reavers were basically manipulated into the other end of the spectrum. I'm not sure how JW will develop them or their motivations, but as others have said -they seem to be pure 'id.' Not only are they nothing but desire, but they don't seem to have much self-awareness/consciousness that would allow them to reflect. IOW, I'm not sure they have the capacity to ask "who am I?" This is problematic b/c they've survived at least 10 years(?) so a little ego(?) must be there in the mix enabling them to survive long enough to get what they want.....

I'm not a big fan of sin, though I do engage in it quite a bit :) However, I think our heroes are a good example of how to go about trying to live a 'good' life (except the bank robbing/crime....I'm sorry- there's no way to rationalize that one :)). That is, try to take care of you and your own and harm as few people as possible in the process of doing so...
