"Thst pretty much summs it up," Virgil said, agreeing with Avon's explaination of what happened to Dugan. But it appeared Dugan was coming around of his own, so Kyle might not need to heal him after all.
"As for the rest of it--I dunno. Basically, we all got involved in this because of the Imperium quarantine. But from the looks of it, that last battle wiped out their remaining forces in their sector--so technically there's nothing stopping us from leaving. Except that some of us--including yours truly--are now wanted by very low people in very high places..."
He sighed, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"Still, we're headed for a space station, right? Why don't we pull in, hang around for awhile, find out what's going on in the rest of the universe--THEN try an' figure out our next move." He yawned--by his calculation, he was about three days behind on sleep.
"Listen, if no one needs me for anything else, I'm gonna crash. Somebody wake me once we get where we're goin, would ya?"
The layout of the Yamato-4 looked remarkably similar to its predecessor, and Virgil found his quarters without much trouble. By the time he go there, Calenderi was already settled in. His pack and persoal belongngs were there as well. Virgil quickly rummaed through his megar belongongs--he lost a lot of his stuff when they ditched the cruise ship, and the rest of it when his squadron's HQ on Terra VII was destroyed.
"Remind me to go shopping once we dock," he told Calenderi.
"Shopping?!", she replied, her voice slightly shrill. "You plan to go out IN PUBLIC??"
"Umm...yeah. Why not?"
"Try to think, even if it hurts. You are currently wanted by one of the most powerful governments in this quadrant, and are in possession of a mecha worth at least a quarter BILLION credits which only you can operate, and which they now consider stolen property. What do you think the price on YOUR head's going to be?"
"Good point--but whaddya want me to do, crawl into a hole!?" He had to do some buying--there was one item in particular he was looking to pick up... "Look--maybe they haven't reard about it this far out from Earth--"
"Can't risk it...wait a sec..." A develish grin formed on the litle dragon's face. "I've an idea."
"What?"
"Just get some rest--I'll take care of everything else."
Normally, Virgil would've been suspicious--but the pull of his bed was too inviting. "All right..."
Without even bothering to undress, he climbed into bed, and was dead to the world seconds later.
Calenderi hovered over the bed for a moment, looking down at him. With one last snicker, she flew off in search of what she needed.
