Irish Police Arrest Five as Part of Paramilitary Investigation

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Irish police arrested five people and uncovered guns and ammunition in Dublin as part of an investigation into the activities of dissident republican paramilitaries.

Four men and a woman were being detained under section 30 of the Offenses Against the State Act at three separate police stations in Dublin after they were detained yesterday, the Irish police said today in an e-mailed statement.

The Real Irish Republican Army, a dissident paramilitary group opposed to Northern Ireland’s peace process, said it intends killing police officers in the U.K. province in the coming months, the Belfast-based Irish News reported today.
