Brews and bricks

Patios around town are where to go for beers
By LAUREN CHAPIN
The Kansas City Star

I've knocked back many a pint in ye olde pubs of England and Ireland. The centuries-old structures exhale character with their scruffy floors, ceramic beer pulls and pocked dart boards. And loyalty runs as deep as the road to Middle-earth. In fact, J.R.R. Tolkien gathered weekly at the Eagle and Child in Oxford with C.S. Lewis and other colleagues. In the pub's Rabbit Room, they shared their work, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

In Kansas City, the best we can hope for is a decent patio seating, Boulevard on tap, and some fun microbrews and imports from parts yonder. A pretty view is just the head on the pint.
