Author: Leiha
Subject: I know exactly what you mean, when an author describe an outfit that is supposed to be current and hip and they describe it and I'm totally turned off by how dated the outfit is. It takes me out of the scene. That never happens with Karen.
In reply to: Lina 's message, "The only similarity in Karen's characters are that the men are always the rough-around-the-edges highlanders, and the women are always brainiacs! I don't see that as as issue, but rather a signature/a trademark of the author. I do have one very personal observation about Karen's way of presenting her characters. The fact is, sometimes when I'm reading a novel that tries to portray rather "cool" or "trendy" or "today" characters, as well as humorous lines that we're likely to hear in 20-something, 30-something conversations, you can definitely tell the author is NOT from the generation of her characters, therefore the attire, jokes, etc. don't quite work as well (for me anyway!) Karen handles this beautifully! Therefore her characters seem more realistic to me, and everything about them really works... I hope that made sense to someone..." on 15:53:29 09/25/05 Sun
