What was the most touching scene in the book, for you, and why?

[> Well Bo, I'm torn between several. I guess it would be when Jamie comes to the ship to get Claire. After the terror of not knowing how he is, and then to see him coming for her! Then she realizes that he has to leave without her and she almost can't bear it! (I was crying so hard at this point) Then she stabbed her knife down in the Governor's desk and said, "You f*cking bastard". (I was feeling her rage for sure!) -- LadyTheresaC, 07:47:29 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> I had forgotten most of that,LadyT-the "you fu*king bastard part rings a bell, though! *G* For me,it was when Germain explains that he promised Marsali he would never, ever leave Henri-Christian.It just broke my heart.I've always thought of Germain as comic relief-always breaking into a "very filthy French song" and imitating Jamie, but right at that moment, how solemn he was about it,I swear I loved that kid almost as much as Jamie himself! *G* I really felt like it didn't matter that he is not Jamie's real grandson(although they are very distantly blood-related,I suppose, since Grandma "Leg-hair" was a MacKenzie at one time, right?) because I can see Jamie in him,in his loyalty to Henri-Christian,to Jemmy, the way he takes things so seriously now. -- Boadicea, 17:00:06 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> [> I also sobbed my guts out over the plan to run away that Germain and Jemmy made-that was so sweet. And I cried when Bree & Roger leave,of course, but I wanted more.Another scene that touched me,in an odd way,was when they rescue Claire and are killing men,for her,and the feelings she has, after.I really need to do a re-read,this makes me want to ,and I have forgotten too much already! -- Boadicea, 17:03:01 01/10/06 Tue

[> I don't know if this was "touching" but the scene where Roger is watching Claire wash herself and fix her nose after the rape was really ...hmm whats the word? Vivid? I felt like I was there and I felt like I could really feel every character in that scene, like I was them. -- Rhiannon, 17:50:16 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> By the way did anyone else notice that that everyone in Jamie's imediate family has been raped now. I wonder why DG has this happen to everyone especially Claire. I NEVER saw that coming with her. -- Rhiannon, 18:01:07 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> [> I know, isn't that crazy? I thought about that when I finished it,and I sort of think that it's because Claire has been the primary character, she's who we started out the whole story with from the very beginning. We have walked in her shoes more than any other character,IMHO,what with the first few books being told in first person 85% of the time.I don't think it was to bring them closer together as a family-they are all very close,it wasn't needed for that. -- Boadicea, 18:12:20 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> [> I could have done without Claire's rape for sure. I guess it would've been unrealistic though, if she had came out inscathed, having been captured by a band of ruthless men. A little of the point, but Oh my goodness, was I ever relieved that Marsali was alive! -- LadyTheresaC, 19:02:01 01/10/06 Tue

[> [> [> [> I was worried for Marsali and the baby-really worried.I know Henri-Christian being a dwarf is due to genetics rather than the attack at the whisky still, but I can't help but think they are partly to blame for Henri-Christian -- Boadicea, 19:09:43 01/10/06 Tue
