Subject: HARD EVIDENCE DISCUSSION

As Tessa works on her investigation, she struggles to balance the ethical demands of her job with the needs of the police department, a challenge that investigative reporters sometimes face. Along the way she managed to make everyone angry—her editor, Julian, Chief Irving. Did she strike the right balance? What would you have done?

[> Someone is ALWAYS going to be pi$$ed,no matter what-that's just life.I think she did a wonderful job,and I think she went on instinct, which is generally thought to be the hallmark of a GREAT cop/investigator."Following a hunch",right? If she had worried about pi$$ing this one or that one off,had resisted probing into the messy things b/c somebody might get their panties in a wad, then how would anyone ever know what was going on,and that something needed to be done about it? Personally,I can't say what I would have done-I like to think I've got ballocks galore, and I've been told by more than my Mom that I am rash,LOL,but I don't know if I could've been gutsy enough like Tessa. -- Boadicea, 20:58:28 10/19/06 Thu

[> [> YAY, Bo, I'm glad you feel that way. If I were Tessa's colleague and I were asked to evaluate her behavior, I'd think she was a goddess. She's incredibly brave to do what she did. I would have done some of it, but I don't think you'd catch me hanging in an alley in A-Town (Aurora) after dark. Then again I've done some extreme things people think are nuts in order to get a story, so who knows. But I felt she threaded her way through the ethical quagmire and the strained loyalties very well. And she did have good instincts, didn't she? I didn't think about that. -- P.C., 21:04:20 10/27/06 Fri
