Subject: Dark Curse by Christine Feehan

For a while I almost gave up on the Carpathians. The men were all very lovely, but the stories were beginning to feel interchangeable. Every book seemed to present a new piece to the puzzle (we have no babies, we have someone hunting down psychic women, we have vicious parasites, suddenly we have mages...), but none of those pieces seemed to fit together. It was frustrating. And getting bloody difficult to remember which couple was which.

But suddenly, all that's changed. Over the course of the last 2 or 3 books, it's gradually been revealed that all the misfortunes of the Carpathians have been engineered by one person: Xavier. And in Dark Curse we found out just how evil he really is.

This was such a great book. Questions were answered so that they could lead to more possible plotlines:

* Will the aunts have HEAs? - Their development should be so interesting. How do you overcome the trauma of hundreds of years trapped in the ice and bled out?

* Is Razvan redeemable? Did you notice that Lara's mother was NOT his Lifemate? My guess is, next book he will be rescued and the way will be cleared for him to get a story.

* Andre and Tariq go computer dating? I wonder if this is a way to hook up a few mates in a hurry. One couple per year is just way too inefficient to build an army!

* Dominic in the enemy camp? More inevitable trauma.

* And my favorite speculation: What did happen to Ivory? They all assume she's dead, but there's never been a body. You know what that always means...

[> Just realized I never actually mentioned the couple in this book. I did like like them, and the way that Nicholas came to recognize Lara's need for independence. One facet that was hard - the way the Carpathians seem to be looking on Lara as more of a useful tool to them rather than an actual person. Hence no conversion allowed. Wonder how that will develop? -- Beth, 09:43:26 09/18/08 Thu

[> This is the first book where we've not had a conversion in the couse of the book - I thought that was interesting. I can't WAIT to hear more about the aunts and who their mates may potentially be. She has opened the door to a LOT of new books with this one and we still have Dimitri and Skyler waiting in the wings along with the remainder of Nicholas' brothers. The suicide was heartwrenching with everything Nicholas had to endure to retrieve Lara. Great book!!! -- KelliJo Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket, 14:52:01 09/22/08 Mon

[> [> [> Yeah, I think Zacarias is the last, tho', truthfully, I find it hard to keep everyone straight in my mind. And Dimitri and Skyler - it's been YEARS already. How long can the torture go on! -- Beth, 15:07:34 09/25/08 Thu

[> I agree with you, I was starting to give up on Feehan a bit (actually bought the book for my mom not me) but once I read this my faith was restored. It was really good! I loved the interaction between Nicolas and Laura and I was so happy to figure out what was going on with the Carpathians! I can't wait to see what happens next -- tsukino_aiko, 18:11:33 09/23/08 Tue

[> I just finished this week ( yeah, I am a bit late on these things) I have not anything from CF in a while. Like it was said before, everything started to sound the same. I did really enjoy this one though. I was surprised. I thought the ended was different then normal, it almost seemed like she stopped and forgot the end. LOL. Looking forward to the next one! -- Lynn, 15:57:51 11/14/08 Fri
