I do not give weekly updates. Sometimes fabric is late, emails are lost, etc. No need to panic. Your dress is not late, but might be if I have to reply to you and every other dance mom who writes constantly looking for an update. You booked the dress in July for November completion- why do you need reassurance every week that your dress is in queue?
Just needed to get that off my chest.

Does anyone know where to get a hold of the Seven Gates embroidery designs? I am looking for the Celtic entwined bird design from a few years back to make companion "beginner" jumpers for the girls at our school. If anyone knows of where the appliques or digitized designs can be purchased, I'd be grateful!!!

and came across three spec dresses I started over 4 years ago. I have the bodice and two side panels embroidered/appliqued. If I purchased some soft fabric to coordinate could I still use the bodices? They are the traditional standard waisted type so I'm thinking if the pile yields more of the fabric I can add a mock "dropped waist" panel then add the ruffles to that. Even if I sold it for just a couple of hundred dollars it is better than it sitting unused. What suggestions might you all have?

I am going to receive my first “new” dress and it will need to be stoned. How many rhinetones do most dresses usually use, in terms of gross packages? Oh, and what size? Is 34ss standard?

Also, the Rhinestone guy has Czech stones on his website that he says are better for stoning costumes and flash better at distances greater than 4 feet away. Has anyone used these? Are the better/worse/the same as Swarovski crystals? Would you recommend them? How about the hot fix ones?

To be honest I didn’t realize there was this much involved with rhinestones. Thank you for any advice you can offer.

I had this machine for years ($100 at Walmart), and believe it or not I was able to make lots of alterations, curtains, dress up clothes... and two Irish dance dresses for my DD with it. Now it is down and it is not worth to fix it.

I would like to get something better now yet my budget is very limited. Is there something you would recommend for up to $500? I am not a professional dress maker, need to do a lot of satin stitches though, as you now.

Any suggestions, recommendations appreciated.

Hi, I've been reading through some of the posts on here and it seems that everyone is very experienced with dressmaking! I'm not, at all, but I am quite creative and i'd love to have a go at making my daughter an irish dancing dress. Problem is I really don't know where to start!
I've looked at fabrics but it's the actual pattern i'm stuck with. Is it possible to buy patterns?? She likes the puffball skirt and these ones that looks like roman skirts?!* (sorry don't know how else to describe them).
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks (my daughter is 10 and just gone into primary and we live in the uk)

I am looking for a new dress for Oireachtas. I have been looking for used ones because that is what is in my price range (under $900 US). I haven't seen anything that works and was wondering if someone might have an OTR they are working on that would be in my price range.

I am a senior lady dancer. 5'8", Bust 37". I wear a ladies US size 6/8. I am quite open to colors, styles. I do prefer the elegent look, rather than the bright, flashy, in your face looks. If you have anything, please let me know!

Last week, I was on here begging for help with a bodice... Thanks for all your suggestions. The dress is now assembled, and I am pretty happy with it. DD took it for a "test drive" tonight... and we came up with one quick question.

the dress is two piece, with a very dropped waste look. The "jacket" part goes quite low on the skirt.... so...

Where do we put her number for competition? If we hang it from the center under the "point" of the bodice, it will hang almost to the hem. That looks odd.

What do others do? Off to one side? at natural waist?

Bodice is plain in center, with wide "necklace" decoration at neckline, and a small amount of decoration at the bottom point of the bodice.

THanks again for your past help! You guys are great!

Help! I just bought a serger at a garage sale for $50. It works and came with an instruction booklet. I was hoping my local fabric store would have lessons I could take to learn how to use it, but they said every serger is different and since they don't sell my brand (My Lock 234), then they can't help. I checked out youtube and they have some videos (different brand), but I think I will need more instruction than that.

Do you have any suggestions for me? I do know how to sew and I'm very mechanical. Should I just go from the instruction booklet? How did you all learn to use a serger?

Does anyone know how Elevation's soft pleated skirts (style #8) are constructed? The pleats look like they have heavyweight interfacing, and are attached to a stiffened yoke, but if anyone has seen one up close, and has a better idea of how they are put together, that would be fantastic.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions. In the past I made my dd a dress using black glitter ball and yellow glitter ball. I never had any problems with the yellow, but after some use (approx 6 feis), the black glitter ball is wearing and coming off the fabric. Could I apply anything to the fabric to help stop this (ie. modge podge) and if I did, would it diminish the shine? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I doubt anyone will steal my idea,if I post it on here.I have a semi-hatched plan for dd to be a spirit/ghost for a Halloween feis. I know Marley's ghost was in clothing, all white, dirtied up, with hair and skin white too. A traditional "ghost" costume would be too hard for dd to dance in. So how can I make her a spirit/ghost? Needs to be cheap and easy. So far, I have an underskirt, all white (layers of semi sheer material) from youngest dd's Easter outfit. if I can throw SOMETHING on as a top.....

I also will somehow attach former judges' comments, or write them in fabric paint or something. And a name tag. OK, fine, here;s the idea: "The Ghost of Feises Past".

WE LOVE the idea, just can't figure out the logistics. White loose top, with strips of white material sewn randomly all over, to flow? White spray for hair?

hey.. just wondering if anyone knows of a source of a bright royal blue or electric blue velvet?

Looking for a plain velvet (not crushed or embossed). Preferably cotton or silk as I prefer working with those (hate the acetate stuff!).

Have looked but the suppliers I find all seem to be more navy.

Hi All,
I am making a solo dress (my third). It is almost completely finished. I have hit a snag.

All the decorative work is finished. The skirt is finished and hanging well... This is a two piece dress... so all is well with the skirt half. It is the bodice, or jacket part that is giving my fits.

The Bodice was looking ok... untill I put the sleeves on.

I just can't get them on right. The sleeves are hanging too low on the shoulder, and (I think) causing the bodice to fold or gap at the side of the bust area. It looks "dumpy". (not the look I'm going for! haha)

When the bodice is on her, without sleeves, the shoulders look too wide. Afraid to cut it... I tried to put the sleeves on, and attach them further up on the bodice (in order to place the shoulder seam in the correct place-- ya know). This doesn't seem to be working.

Also, how can I fix the folding in the bodice at the bust line? Of course.. the lining is already in, and Finished at the bottom of the bodice... so getting in to re-do the bust seam is going to be no small feat.

UGH. I really wish I could just bring this to someone and PAY them to put the sleeves on. I am so close to done, and it was looking good until today. Of course we have a feis in 13 days, and I really wanted to see the dress on stage before the Oireachtas! AHHHHHH!

FRUSTRATED!!! ):-(

Any advice for me!!??? I'll be eternally greatful for any words of wisdom!

THANKS
