Subject: Absolutely. I'm trying to plot out a way to make this profitable (more off-the-racks, price hikes, trying to find cheaper materials, working more efficiently, etc.) but to be honest I'm on a two-year count down. I personally suspect the only way to make a decent living is to have 2+ (underpaid) employees, 2+ machines, minimal customization, and a direct source for Swarovski rhinestones...

Don't quit. Just outline for your customers what you just wrote. Use photos of past dresses as a visual. They will get it. If they are not willing to pay you for the amount of work they are asking for, they have the option to pay a BNDM $2500-$3000. (NT)good luck.Tuesday, April 21, 10:55:51am

Another suggestion - have them purchase their own crystals and give them the option to glue them on or to have you do it. They will understand the time and expense better if they are part of the process. (NT):)Tuesday, April 21, 10:59:37am

Also, if they are familiar with your product and you do quality work, they won't have a problem paying you what you are asking. (NT):)Tuesday, April 21, 11:05:04am

Have you done that, don't quit poster? I still find customers try to beat me down on price all the time with an assortment of excuses, and I'm sick of it. They see photos of my dresses, they still want copies of year-old BNDM dresses for bargain prices. (NT)Undervalued and underpaid hard-working DM!Tuesday, April 21, 05:55:36pm

I can make BNDM comparable dresses for about $1800-2700. No problem! However, very few people are willing to pay that much for a SNDM. Resale is the largest concern, but they also just don't feel its "worth" that much without the "name". Never mind that BNDM's are charging $1600-3500 depending on the size & stones... And lets not forget, the BNDM's have direct contact with Swarovski and don't pay a middle-man for the stones, thus increasing their profits. (NT)Not angry or jealous, just tired.Wednesday, April 22, 09:08:21am
