Subject: We don't have to call ourselves "small"dressmakers! Designer Dressmaker or, if you don't do designing, Dressmaker will do. Even "Not well known"doesn't always fit, because a lot of us are quite well known not just in our own area. If others call us small, we can politely correct them. And if any one tells me they can shove me around because "I'm not Gavin or Siopa", I'll tell them to go to them, because I don't work like that!

In reply to: dressmaker 's message, "So, we call ourselves small dressmakers or small name dressmakers as opposed to the big name dressmakers. The "small" moniker rubs me the wrong way. We work just as hard as the bn dressmakers, maybe even harder. I know that I am not the only one who creates superior dresses in terms of workmanship, neatness and alterability, so I think we need a better name. "Solo" dressmaker (as in 1 person) could be confusing; "lone" dressmaker sounds lonely and uni-bomberish...what else could work?" on Friday, September 12, 02:24:56pm

If we let clients treat us like dirt, they will keep doing it. If none of us puts up with this sh..then where do they go? We provide a service, and a good one! Our dresses have "THE LOOK" same as the "famous" dressmakers and they get a dress that fits perfect when they collect it. They have a big saying in the design, fabric and colours. And most of the time our dresses are of better quality. I know one of my clients comes to me, because the class costume they had to buy from a so called BNDM fell apart ( embroidery) when taken out of the box. They didnt trust that dressmaker with the solo dress they needed! So ladies, be proud to be a one-woman-band and let's drop the "small". We might be a small business, but we are BIG in every other way!
