I am attempting one of these skirts for one of my students. I figured out how to make the curly ruffle today (thank goodness for my rolled hem foot!) I want a really really curly skirt but don't know how to construct it. If you have made one or even want to guess, do you think the really tight curly ruffle skirts are on a circle skirt? stiff skirt? I would like it to move have have shape. Any thoughts you have are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, all you experienced people!!
I just made a mock bodice for my dd's dress. She is a curvy 17 year old. The bodice fits well through the hips, waist and into the bust. It doesn't sit well at the neckline. It is too loose across the top of the chest. The actual neckline is pretty good... it just seems like there is too much material across the area between the shoulders, but above the bust. The back fits well.

Any suggestions on how to adjust the pattern? Perhaps it is impossible for you to suggest anything without actually seeing it. She is busty and short waisted. Not really overweight, but not a tiny waist (for sure!) measures 36, 30, 36 1/2. The "no waist" thing runs in the family. (sorry dd!)

Any suggestions?

Can anyone one recommend what stitch setting would produce a nice satin stitch suitable for emboidery?

Subject: Question about lycra, and iron on stiffener

Author:

[Edit]

Date Posted: Sunday, August 23, 10:54:07pm

Hi, I'm making a dress bodice for my dd. I've made a few dresses in the past, and liked working with lycra because it was durable, (no fraying or running) and when backed with iron on stiffener... it was really easy to work with (not slippery, or slithery).

This time, I found a pretty black lycra with sprays of shinny silver dots. I am wondering if I can still use iron on stiffener with fabric, or will the heat bonding mess up the little shiney dot parts?

I hope this question is not incoherent.

Also... which type of stiffener would you recommend with a lycra?

Thanks so much for any advise!

The seller is calling it "bubble gun hot pink," but we don't think it is either bubble gum pink or hot pink! Is this what fuchsia looks like, or is it too blue? Or maybe it's a sunny silk that has a couple colors in it?

I have a tulle skirt I purchased to put under my dd's dress to make it longer. It is six layers of silk tulle, the overall length is 16", but only 2" will show under dress. I would like to put some crystals on it to 'bling' it up, but have never worked with them before.

I know that the Swarv crystals are the best, but I don't know what size and what quanity to buy. I don't want to 'weigh' the tulle down, but I do want it to sparkle. Should I scatter crystals on each layer, or only the top two layers? Also, what do I attach them with, to keep the skirt light?

I understand the placement of the crystals is a taste issue, but would like some general guidelines. For those of you who have done this before, your input is really appreicated! Also, if this really hard to do, I would like to know before I go any further.

Hi

I would really like to start making my own dance costumes, but I haven't done any sewing before. I thought a good place to start would be to learn how to cut patterns and sewing so thought it would be good to take a dressmaking course (and maybe some beginner one day courses too) as I figured it would be a good place to learn the basics.

The only thing with this theory is that I am unsure of what course would help or even if this is a good direction to start with.

If you could please give me some advice around getting started (for an absolute beginner) i would greaty appreciate it!

Thanks in advance
