Subject: Suggestions? We bought an off the rack dress that came with a shawl that had velcro sewn to it but the matching piece was not sewn on the dress yet. The glue will not hold it on the dress and getting a regular needle through it doesn't work. Do I need to take it to a seamstress? Are there other ways to affix the velcro to the dress?

I would give up and just sew big poppers on. (NT)Just my thought thoughMonday, January 02, 02:23:16pm

what glue have you tried? E6000 is much stronger than other glues. What about using a safety pin? It will be hidden by the cape, and can go through just the top layers of fabric on the dress (NT)some thoughtsMonday, January 02, 03:39:04pm

I'd get rid of the velcro -- It tends to snag & fuzz up wigs. sew on a big snap. (NT)DMMonday, January 02, 06:18:09pm

Forget glue, add SNAPS (NT)Velcro no good!Tuesday, January 03, 09:46:54am

Velcro can also be purchased with a sticky back that might work if you don't want to go to snaps. No sewing required then. (NT)dmTuesday, January 03, 12:29:56pm

Sounds like your current velcro is sticky and that is why the struggle with sewing it on. Just purchase a small amount of sew-on velcro and then sew it on. (NT)my thoughtTuesday, January 03, 02:50:45pm

Correct...the velcro it came with had a sticky back but it isn't sticking to the velvet...hence my sewing dilemma...thanks for recommending the sew on velcro...I will try to pick some up and try that solution. If not, then I am heading towards the snaps! (NT)OPWednesday, January 04, 08:36:28am

My new dress came from Ireland and I ripped on all the velcro and added snaps, way more reliable than velcro (NT)noneThursday, January 05, 07:25:55pm

I have seen a lot of dresses from ireland that have not been attached and come with a stick on piece of Velcro. I don't get it either. Why not spend just a couple extra minutes and sew it on? (NT).?Tuesday, January 10, 06:05:08pm
