Subject: Ive ordered my daughter's new dress from well known SNDM , had skype consultation, picked colors and requested the dress for 1st week of May. Have heard nothing since April 2 re progress. Emailed her twice with no real response. She hasn't said design is even ready yet. Deposit for the dress was paid December last year. What else should I do?

How many dresses does she make per week? Does she have a reputation for delivering dresses on time? Yours may not have even got to the top of her list yet, and she may not start it till the end of April. I know as a dressmaker I don't start a dress until a week or so before it is due, and can make a dress in a few days if necessary. It's a busy time of year right now. Thanks . I am more concerned that we haven't seen the design yet. My daughter is in 20+ age group so knows what she wants, and sent pictures of some dress styles she likes. The DM isn't at the worlds to my knowledge as she's put up new dresses on her website. I am not sure how many dresses she makes, but having dealt with Siopa Rince I am sorry that we didn't go back to them, they let us know progress of the dress we had made by them. Your disappointment may be a bit early. My designs are developed as the dress progresses. What you have in your mind might not look the same in fabric. If she is busy, better to have her sewing rather than spending time on the computer and phone. I'm sure she will contact you when she needs your input. (NT)relaxThursday, April 17, 11:36:30pm

You say "no real response"; I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that, but it seems you have received a response. Everyone does things differently, so I don't think that just because this dressmaker is not doing things the same way Siopa does means you will not get your dress in time. While I agree that its other posters points about lateness/dress posts/etc., if you DO need a sketch to get approved by your teacher (or it was agreed on during the preliminary process that you would finalize the sketch) it is close enough to early May that I understand why you would expect to have one. Have you specifically addressed this with the dressmaker? She may be too busy to reply with a long email, but it is important to be on the same page about the design approval. OP my daughter was told that she would be shown design for her approval/ TC's as well. She got an acknowledgement of her last email a week ago but no advice as to when the design would be ready Btw approx cost is only $100 cheaper than Siopa Rince dress my daughter had made last year. If we had not been told that we'd see the design well before the due date I wouldn't be worried but we haven't . My daughter is working two part time jobs to pay for the dress with my help as well. I mereley asked what others thought I should do given that the DM is only acknowledging emails but not advising re progress of design as its getting vey close to May. My daughter is streesed out that she's sold her last dress and the buyer is asking her when she can have it. Also the TC is asking about the design. Sorry I asked really. Have you communicated your dancer's and TC's concerns about the design and the need for a sketch. If a sketch or facsimilie of the dress was specified in your contract, the DM has breached that covenant. Be polite, gracious but firm about your needs and concerns. Do not be vague or unclear. As a dress buyer, I would like to agree with the OP, that the dressmaker's communication should be better. And yes the dressmaker should give the customer some sort of idea when the sketch will be ready. I'm sorry, but so many of the dressmakers have HORRIBLE customer service. It really only takes a few minutes to reply to an email - and certainly the dressmaker can give an idea (like a week, 2 weeks) of when the sketch will be ready. Doesn't it all come back to dress buyers wanting a BNDM dress lookalike for a SNDM price, but with more customer input and "service", better quality embroidery and finish, more emails (each reply may only take a few minutes, but with multiple customers and enquiries they sure can eat up any dressmaker's time).
