Subject: The traditional fabric is gabardine. Velvet would also work. You could use any fabric just as long as you interface and/or line it to make the panels stiff enough. To camouflage "toddler tummy" in a drop-waisted dress, use vertical or diagonal design elements (piecing, applique or embroidery) on the bottom half of the bodice.

Draw your design on DD's actual silhouhette to see if it flatters.
