Subject: Hi there. My daughter, fairly large busted, has decided she would like a bodice with 1/2" wide stripes down the whole front of the bodice. How would you go about doing this, I am pulling my hair out, going round and round in circles. I am truely stumped! How do you keep them all 1" apart.......I'm going slowly mad......

Use striped fabric! :) I've seen several Siopa Rinces like that. (NT)Good luck!Thursday, July 30, 06:31:27am

How about just a few stripes down the very center, rather than the entire bodice? (NT)would that work?Thursday, July 30, 08:30:16am

hi is the dress compleated? if not you could satin stitch measure out between with ruler and mark placement then satin stitch down, i did 3 lines down on front bodice for customer and looked nice... (NT)laura new DMThursday, July 30, 09:58:49am

The large bust does complicate it... I think it would be much easier to do 2-6 stripes down the middle... Maybe if you put them on after you do the waist darts, but before you do the bust darts, and just know there will be a blank space on the sides where you run out of space? I'm not sure if that makes any sense... Sorry. =/ (NT)lots of trial and error I thinkThursday, July 30, 12:12:40pm

What about making the stripes with ribbon or some sort of trim/fabric strips sewn on after you dart the bodice? (NT).Friday, July 31, 08:48:51am

The stripes will emphasize a full chest. A solid dark velvet bodice with color or pattern up by her face would be better.just trying to helpFriday, July 31, 08:53:27pm

The photo that you posted with the stripes has a chest measurement of 25" - so the stripes would stay straight & flat. (NT)34" chest would distort linesTuesday, August 04, 06:28:44am

Hi Carol-anne. I've done some stripes by hand. I drew lines with a ruler/tailor's chalk, straight stitched over, then followed stitched lines to make the stripes. I did okay, but it was very difficult, and they were thinner than 1/2". GD has an embroidery machine with a hoop large enough to accommodate the whole bodice. Can you find someone with an embroidery machine that can digitize and stitch this out for you? It may be well worth the money to avoid the stress and crooked lines.
