Agreed. I've been keeping a timer running the past few weeks and come to the startling realization that I am gravely underestimating the amount of time spent. I recommend giving it a shot (perhaps on a more relaxing off-the-rack!), and see if you are due for a price adjustment. Styles were simpler for a little bit, but stitch count and rhinestone expectations have doubled in the past year (or so it seems). Prices need to keep up. I agree. I've been doing this for a long time and customers this year have been brutal. I'm seriously considering finding a new line of work. OTR's are a waste of time as the market is saturated in my opinion. It used to be that my OTR's would sell almost immediately. Too many unrealistic expectations and lots of bullying going on. Oh I am so pleased to see I am not the only one fed up with very demanding customers who want to micromanage every detail and think they know so much better than I do for their little dancer getting her first new dress. Some people are a sheer delight to work with, but others have made me seriously consider giving up this business. Two weeks ago I decided to increase my prices by 20% next year, and I'll see if that compensates for all the hassle! So nice to know I am not alone! (NT)!Thursday, November 21, 05:10:52am

wow! I've also been considering upping my prices and limiting customer input. I'm an artist and I have more experience, I don't want to tell you what color thread I'm using everywhere, just let me do my job! Have been at this for 12 years and now seriously considering doing only OTRs - tired of jumping through hoops for families, replacing skirts, adding crystals, alterations only to have them order a BNDM next season. Suppose I should be grateful I dont have to deal with them and curious as to how they deal with the BNDM. This all sounds so familiar and I did just actually "quit" dressmaking and found a new job. I have had lovely clients, but I am tired of the dressmaking hierarchy, the politics, the losing customers to BNDM that they complain about, the customers who cancel for legitimate reasons (broken leg, quitting dance) but leave me with a hole in my income, the constant pressure to recreate new styles just from a photo, etc. Time for something new. Wish there was a like button here!Spend so much of my time making BN look good so that the customer can post a picture looking great on the BN facebook.I have had to practically remake a BND to work and then when they are admired at a feis they go,Oh yes,it is a "BND".Good thing I have a good sense of humor.But it can be tough!One thing that has made it a little easier is that I have learned to say, no I am sorry,the way they have made this makes it impossible to look as good as you would like!
