In reply to: DM 's message, "advice on back of bodice - almost every time I make a dress the back bodice is left in a bump - sometimes a huge one - it's like the bodice is too long - but if I take the extra material away the whole back of the dress comes up short - can anyone help? This is becoming a nightmare, really because I don't know what I'm doing wrong." on Thursday, November 21, 05:11:33am

The curve of the skirt can affect the back bodice. Near both sides of the zipper, the skirt is not curved, just straight across, then angles up slightly at the side back bodice and curves around at the side seams. Also stiffener in the back center seam of the skirt can cause the back bodice to bump out. I usually cut it out of the seam or finish it with zigzag with only 1/4 in of seam allowance. Check out pics of backs of dresses on feisdresses.com or other dress sites. I find that changing the darts can really change the entire bodice, so personally I stay away from that.
