Subject: How long does it typically take you to digitize a full dress design. Let's say a championship, heavily emroidered/appliqued dress. It can take me up to two full 8 hour days. Is this normal? I feel it's taking a lot longer than necessary and I may need to consider outsourcing some digitizing.

I've got much quicker over the years. Partly it's due to lots of practise, partly due to having lots of motifs already digitised now, so I can remix designs, without having to start every dress from scratch. I can probably do a complex dress in a couple hours. (NT)Certainly nowhere near 8 hours!Wednesday, February 12, 08:50:03pm

Good digitizing takes time. I see so much bad embroidery on dresses nowadays, even on the so called BNDM dresses. Sloppy, choppy, illogical embroidery is a sign of either working too fast, using the auto digitize button, or just really not having the eye necessary for digitizing clean and clear embroidery. So, perhaps if I started using the corel draw section of my bernina software it may speed things up a little. I'm not a "techie" but I'm sure I can figure out a tablet and pen to do the job. I don't want to compromise the quality but I NEED to speed this up a bit..... (NT)more things to learn :-)Thursday, February 13, 09:03:59am

If you're taking 2 days or more just to digitise a dress design, might it be worth rethinking the design so you can get it done much quicker? If this is a business for you, rather than making an occasional dress for pleasure, then time is money and I cannot see how taking 2 (or 5!) days to digitise a design would be profitable (NT)!Friday, February 14, 02:37:33pm

HAHAHA Yes, I like the poolside idea, however, trying to make this a more profitable business. So while I don't really like the idea of compromising my design ideas I do see how I need to rethink them to make them happen faster. Time to figure out more "copy and pasting" digitizing techniques. (NT)I can still do that at the pool right? :)Saturday, February 15, 09:33:14am

BTW, since you, the experienced dm are talking abut digitizing, where do you learn it? Does it come with your sewing education? Or the digitizing probgram will provide enough demo to teach an individual? (NT)non-professional dmSaturday, February 15, 11:29:05pm
