You said the dress has an overlay of lace-
Take up the overlay, add more base fabric similar to view B on your pattern put the overlay back on. If you have to seam the overlay, add the trim at the line. Also, make sure that he dress is tight enough to the skirt doesn't flare out and show the top of her kick pants. You can get away with a dress on the shorter side. What I do is measure from the top of the thigh in back to the back of the knee. Divide n half, measure down from top of thigh. That should be fine.
