Hi I am going to try making my own headband for my solo dress. Can anyone please tell me where I can buy those plain padded headbands? I guess they are called barrel headband and I will be decorating them with fabrics and crystals. My friends keep telling me that I can get headbands anywhere but of course they are never there when you are looking for them.

Thanks for your help, I live in NYC.

Plain padded headbands are found at Joanne's Fabric in the wedding section. I've also fund padded headbands at AC Moore and re-covered it. If you're going for extra thick - double your headhand... (NT)Good luck.Friday, June 26, 12:02:18am

In Ohio, our dollar stores have these headbands, but in limited colors (NT)Also check Claire'sFriday, June 26, 08:08:26am

Found them! (NT)Thanks everyone for your help.Friday, June 26, 11:13:18am

I found the plastic headbands with a foam pad on top (not covered) at Michaels. Can someone post an easy way to cover them? I am all thumbs when I try! (NT)Hot glue is definitely not my medium!Saturday, June 27, 10:36:00am

I have found that glue does not work well for covering the headband because of the curve. What I do is cut a square of fabric big enough to cover the entire headband. Place the headband diagonally across the centre of the square. Then wrap tightly over the headband, pin at the back trimming the extra fabric as I go and tucking under the raw edge, then stitch tightly at the back. Works really well. The fabric comes up perfectly smooth as long as you pin and stitch tightly. (NT)RMonday, June 29, 05:43:56am

I have used stretch velvet to cover headbands and simply sew a tube with 1 open end, roll the tube onto the padded headband and smooth the fabric in place. All you need to do then is handstitch the open end closed. It helps to stitch in the elastic loops first with the machine so there are attachments for the dancer to use for her pins. Two great suggestions! Thanks, I'm going to try them both. (NT)hot glue challenged posterTuesday, June 30, 07:16:00am
