Subject: how much do I charge

I was asked to take off on old skirt, replace it with a bubble skirt (obviously I had to draft a pattern and figure it out myself)& re-stone the dress. THEN all of the sudden they wanted the entire bodice tailored (the hang changed when the heavy skirt was replaced with a light one), cape, and headband. This has been a huge pain and is taking forever! How much should I charge for this? I havn't been able to keep track of my hours - it is taking all of my time though. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Probably would have been easier to just make a new dress! Make sure you charge enough for all of your trouble...geesh, some customers! (NT): )Wednesday, November 04, 02:36:15pm

How much did you tell the customer before you started? I would stick to that. (NT)She wasn't to know it would take you so long.Wednesday, November 04, 03:33:23pm

Charge by the hour and keep track of it. Likely $500-700, It's a huge pain to do this and no one has any idea how much brain damage goes into it. I only charge $10-15 per hour for alterations to my dresses by at least $25 for others (even more for BN's). (NT)Good luck.Wednesday, November 04, 04:42:51pm

I agree with at least $500-$700... and that is a bargain! It takes me much longer to reconstruct a dress that you have not made than it does to make a new one. People don't understand that but it's not your problem. Be sure to charge for the hours you put in. (NT)Live and learnWednesday, November 04, 06:44:46pm
