So far the only fabric I stay away from is the tissue lames. I find that they fray too easily. For my daughter's last dress, I used lyrca for the skirt lining, kick pleats and the design. I really like it for the lining and the kick pleats. It wasn't bad for the design, just had to make sure that it was stabalized well so it wouldn't stretch (I couldn't cut any corners). The best thing to do is talk to your dressmaker. She/he will be able to help you with fabrics that would work based upon your design. Velvets are making a come back. I love how they look, but they can be a bit of a pain to work with. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to work with them - I just have to use more pins. Good luck on your dress.

as far as fabrics go, I highly suggest letting your DM choose what she likes to work with and feels is appropriate. I know, for myself, what I like to work with and what I won't touch! You can still play with color and design, but maybe wait on the actual fabrics until your DM gives you guidance. As far as design goes, small designs can still work as long as there is enough contrast with colors (NT)I also design with pencil/paper!Tuesday, August 05, 08:24:14pm
