I break the design about an inch and a half from the edge of the hoop, then run a straight stitch where the next bit of embroidery will meet what I've just stitched. When I rehoop I move the fabric so those straight stitches lay in the hoop close to where the next pattern of embroidery will be. On that next pattern I also run a straight stitch under the satin and tell it to stitch first. I adjust the hoop using the arrows on the machine until the straight stitch runs exactly over the original straight stitch. Of course using the trace button after each adjustment. I hope that is clear...lol
